Earlier this week, the rumours started to break that One Direction were splitting up.
Of course, we all laughed, knowing it couldn’t possibly be true, and then the boys confirmed they were in fact going on a break, and definitely NOT splitting.
1D big boss Simon Cowell has now talked about his boyband’s future, and how he felt about the break.
Talking at the launch of the new series of The X Factor, Digital Spy quotes him saying: “I’ve known for months that they wanted to take a break. They haven’t announced an official break-up because I don’t think they’re quite sure what they want to do yet, other than have some time off.”
“After five years – I know what their schedule was like – it was gruelling. They would have burned themselves out. We’ve never been in a situation where we say, ‘We think you should do this’ or ‘We think you should do that’. I would say, ‘Tell me what you want to do and we’ll support you either way’.”
He continued: “I don’t know yet what they’re going to do. They got so successful so quick and they’ve got so many great songs now that they could be doing this for 5 years, 10 years, 20 years.”
“So I don’t think you have almost like a master plan, other than knowing that any time they came back together, I think the fans would still support them. I think people would still go to their concerts.“
The story started to go viral yesterday that the boys were breaking up, despite the only quotes being from a ‘source’, who said that it was only a break. But still, for some reason, a lot of the press said the band were splitting. Good journalism there, guys.
Now, Niall, Louis and Liam have taken to Twitter to set things straight.
Following their latest show in Chicago, Niall wrote: “Ok so Lots of rumours going round. We are not splitting up, but we will be taking a well earned break at some point next year”
“Don’t worry though, we still have lots we want to achieve ! Can’t wait for you to hear all the new music we have for you and to perform”
He also teased: “Some new songs as the tor continues! Love you all xx”
He added: “*tour I should say”
Meanwhile, Louis tweeted: “Your support is truly indescribable! It’s just a break we’re not going anywhere !!”
This morning, Liam also made an appearance on Twitter, writing: “So glad everything has been cleared up today and ur support with it is amazing not that we could ever expect anything less your amazing”
“Can’t wait to put more time into everything we do and coming out with something great”
“Thank you so much for everything you have done for us it’s been the most amazing five years and there’s so much more to come”
Harry is yet to tweet about the break.
So, are we all feeling good about the band again? They really do need a break, as they’ve worked so hard for five non-stop years, and a little time off will surely mean they’re less likely to split up any time soon!
One Direction have dropped a surprise new single!
The track is called “Drag Me Down”, and it’s AMAZING!
Fans were pleasantly surprised last night, when Liam announced the news on Twitter. He wrote: “Bit of a surprise ! Check out our new single! It’s called Drag Me Down & I hope you love it as much as we do.”
The track is the boys’ first single to be released since Zayn Malik quit the band, and is already available on Spotify and iTunes.
One Direction’s ever changing sound has headed in yet another direction with this track, it’s a lot more upbeat and has a more energetic vibe than some of their previous releases.
We LOVE it!
Talking about the song, Liam Payne said in a video: “It’s the first song from the new album that we’ve been working very, very, very hard on. We can’t wait for you to hear it, see you soon.”
No further details about One Direction’s upcoming album have been released yet, but we suspect it could be another November release, following the trend of their previous albums.
Fans are going crazy for the song on Twitter, but what do you guys think of it?
Let us know in the comments below!
Niall Horan has begged One Direction fans to stop chasing them.
Ever since One Direction’s fame exploded, the boys have been unable to go out in public without being stopped/followed/mobbed/chased etc.
We all know that One Direction fans are VERY passionate about their boys, so if they ever have the chance to bump into Niall, Harry, Liam or Louis – they’re gonna grab it with both hands. And nobody can blame them.
However, sometimes this can be taken a step too far, and can become dangerous to the point where somebody could get seriously hurt.
Nialler has been trying to address this situation on Twitter over the weekend, after implying that they had been chased by fans in their cars.
Taking to Twitter, Niall wrote: “Guys, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Ya can’t keep driving this crazy, ya gotta be safe on the roads ! Seriously.”
He added: “This thing of chasing our cars down the freeway, it’s not safe , changing lanes in a crazy manner at 65mph is not on b.”
One Direction fans have been known to do some pretty crazy things to get to meet the boys, but hopefully Niall’s tweet will be, at least, a warning to put a stop to that!
Yesterday One Direction celebrated their fifth anniversary.
Five years of the best band in the world being together! Both Louis and Harry wrote some big emotional tweets on the day, which you can read here.
Now the rest of the boys have joined in the celebrations…
“Did I miss something?” joked Liam on Twitter.
He continued: “Wowwwww 5 years 5 boys what an amazing journey I couldn’t thank you all ever enough and thank you Louis Niall Harry and zayn for everything.”
“Thanks for all the memories boys I love you all”
Meanwhile, Niall tweeted: “5 years , literally sittin down talking about last night. Insane! I remember the day we were out together like it was yesterday!”
“Thank you so much for what you’ve done for us so far, what an incredible journey it’s been , wish we could thank you all. You guys have changed our lives and we all love you so much ! Best fans on the planet , easy!”
“Thanks to the boys too, we’ve seen and done some incredible things together, love you all !”
Even Zayn got involved with the Twitter celebrations, retweeting Liam’s words about the anniversary, and replying to him: “@Real_Liam_Payne thanks bro ! x”
